Reflection Hunger Games (DD) (28/3/12)

Today, the literature circle was much better compared to last week, The literature circle this week has more interest and vigor compared to last week where it was lazy and no one was really doing anything. Today, mostly everyone contributed and we had a much better discussion compared to last week.

The standout group member was Victoria, as she made an excellent summary, but I felt it was a bit too long while Jack was the weakest lik, staying quiet throughout and I felt maybe he did his work just minutes before lesson time.

How can we increase group motivation? I feel that the lit circles are really dead, we needs some pep in our lit circles

  1. I'm glad that it's an improvement on last week, but it's a good question for how to improve further. As you are responsible TO each other, you are also responsible FOR each other. If Jack is not pulling his weight, make sure you tell him that you are disappointed and expect more. It is the job of the Discussion Director to keep everything on track and ensure EVERYONE is involved - if they are quiet, the DD (and others) must encourage them to contribute through constant questioning, until they get the idea that there's no sitting back and taking it easy.

If I were you, I'd send out my reflection to the group and say what you'd like to aim for as a focus for the next session. And make it clear that doing work minutes before is COMPLETELY unacceptable.
